Aldi opens Dumpling Truck, serving meals for less than $1.50
German discount retailer Aldi is opening a “Dumpling Truck” pop-up, serving takeaway dinners a box of six Urban Eats dumplings for less than $1.50.
From 5 pm to 7 pm tonight, (Friday), the Aldi Bankstown Central will turn into a takeaway shop, offering shoppers dumplings for $1.44 per serve – less than what some consumers pay for delivery.
According to research commissioned by the retailer, almost half (46 per cent) of Aussies pay $15 to $20 on takeaway food per person per order.
The Dumpling Truck will offer consumers a six-dumpling serve for less than $1.50, with prawn gyoza at 25c per piece and a new seasonal addition to the range, chicken dumplings at 23c each.
All proceeds from the Dumpling Truck will be donated to Aldi’s national charity partner, Camp Quality, a charity that brings positivity, fun and laughter back into the lives of kids facing cancer.
“At a time when consumers are feeling the pinch, it’s rewarding to provide an option for people to enjoy their Friday night rituals still when they shop with us,” said Andrew King, frozen food buying director, Aldi.
“We are so proud of our curated convenience range of frozen food items developed by our trusted supplier partners and are a firm favourite with our customers for a good reason.”
