KABUL, Jan 1 (Reuters)
Several people were injured in the explosion outside the military airport in Kabul on Sunday. A spokesman for the Taliban-run Interior Ministry gave this information.
Spokesman Abdul Nafi Takor said, “This morning there was an explosion outside the Kabul military airport, due to which many of our citizens were martyred and injured.” He said that the investigation is going on. He did not specify the nature or target of the blast. Local residents said a loud explosion was heard in the morning around the heavily guarded military part of the airport. The area has been sealed by security forces and all roads have been closed.
The Taliban-run administration has faced a bloody insurgency waged by the Islamic State militant group, which has targeted several key installations in Kabul in recent weeks, including the Russian and Pakistani embassies.
