Veteran British actor Leslie Phillips has died on the age of 98, together with his representatives confirming that he handed “peacefully in his sleep”. Phillips had a protracted and busy profession, clocking up roles in over 200 motion pictures, together with his first manner again in 1938 within the musical Lassie from Lancashire and happening to be a mainstay of basic British comedy collection Carry On.
But a era of moviegoers will likely be extra aware of Phillips voice slightly than his face, as he offered the efficiency for the Sorting Hat in Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone, happening to reprise the position in Chamber of Secrets and eventually in The Deathly Hallows Part II.
Phillips’ widow Zara Carr has paid tribute to her late husband, saying:
“I’ve lost a wonderful husband and the public has lost a truly great showman. He was quite simply a national treasure. People loved him. He was mobbed everywhere he went.”
That ‘national treasure’ standing is well-earned, as he obtained an OBE from Queen Elizabeth II for his providers to leisure in 1998, with a CBE following in 2008.
Harry Potter followers have already begun reacting to the unhappy news, which follows quickly after the demise of Hagrid actor Robbie Coltrane final month:
RIP Leslie Phillips, 1924-2022.
