External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar addressed the Indian diaspora in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus on Saturday and said that the world has high hopes from India. Jaishankar said that India is today seen as a strong economy and a country contributing to solving the world’s problems.
In his address, the External Affairs Minister said that today India has emerged as a country which contributes to solving the problems faced by the world. He said that India has the courage to stand up to the challenges. We have the ability to bring people to a table.
On the last day of his first official visit to Cyprus, Jaishankar said that India will handle the presidency of the G20 in such a way that the world can understand and appreciate the country’s diversity even more. He asserted that Indians living abroad and visiting the country after a gap of three-four years are now getting to see a changed India.
The External Affairs Minister said that the Covid pandemic has been a difficult experience. Not only have we successfully dealt with Covid, but we have built a better health system, better delivery system, better socio-digital delivery and safety net (be it financial or food aid) during the pandemic.
India has made economic reforms in many areas.
Jaishankar said that India today has come out of the era when people were left to fend for themselves. Indians living abroad should appreciate and understand this change. Jaishankar said that India made economic reforms in various fields. These include reforms in the banking system, changes in credit policy, support to the service sector, small and medium scale businesses, labor reforms and education reforms.
Jaishankar said that after coming to power in 2014, the Modi government has made it clear that Indians living abroad have been a great source of strength for the country. In the last seven or eight years, wherever Indians were in trouble in the world, the Government of India came forward to help them.
