Lok Sabha Secretariat issues notification on disqualification after conviction of Lakshadweep MP Mohammad Faizal in attempt to murder case : TheAlike

The Lok Sabha Secretariat has issued a notification disqualifying Lakshadweep MP Mohd Faizal, recently convicted in an attempt to murder case. Faizal was convicted by a court in the union territory for attempt to murder. As per the notification issued on Friday, Faizal stands disqualified from membership of the Lok Sabha with effect from January 11, the date of his conviction by a sessions court in Kavaratti. The decision has been taken under the provisions of Article 102 (1) (e) of the Constitution of India and Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. It states, “The case consequent to the conviction by the Sessions Court, Lakshadweep, Kavaratti No. 01/2017 Date of conviction of Shri Mohd. Faizal P.P. representing Lakshadweep Parliamentary Constituency of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep under the provisions of Article 102 (1) (e) of the Constitution of India and Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 That is, he is disqualified from the membership of the Lok Sabha from January 11, 2023. A court in Lakshadweep on Wednesday sentenced four people, including Faizal, to 10 years in jail after they were found guilty in a case of attempt to murder. The sessions court at Kavaratti also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh each on the convicts in the attempt to murder case of Mohammed Salih, son-in-law of late Congress leader and former Union minister P M Sayeed. All the convicts are related to each other.
