Mauve – 9to5chic

Surprising myself, most of all: I’ve been able to continue breastfeeding Kellan, 9 months and counting!
With Lucia, I went back into an office after my maternity leave and pumped at increasingly irregular hours due to a steady flow of meetings and guilt-laden stares by my then-manager (I wrote a little about that terrible experience here). My already-limited supply tanked further, so by 4 months postpartum we needed to supplement with formula and by 6 months postpartum, my supply had run dry.
This experience with Kellan has been altogether so much better. Even though I started with low supply (we had to supplement formula starting at 2 weeks old), I’ve been able to maintain it. I breastfeed him first thing in the morning, 1-2 times during the day if possible, and every night before he goes to sleep. And that’s in addition to his daily bottles of formula (anywhere from 10-20 ounces per day). We know we can fall back on formula so it’s relaxed and easy going. And for the first time ever, I don’t see “the end” in sight. I can actually envision breastfeeding as we are for the foreseeable future. I am so grateful for that.
Happy Wednesday! Thanks for stopping by.
