Officer, suspect wounded in shootout throughout visitors cease in Richmond, Indiana

RICHMOND, Ind (CBS) — Indiana State Police are investigating after an officer and suspect are wounded following a shootout throughout a visitors cease Wednesday night.

Richmond Police Officer Seara Burton responded to a name round 6:30 p.m. to help different officers with a visitors cease within the space of North twelfth Street and C Street.  

A 47-year-old man using a moped was situated and stopped.

During the visitors cease, officer Burton’s Ok-9 companion Brev was used to conduct an open-air sniff across the moped and indicated the potential presence of narcotics, police mentioned.

While talking with the rider, he allegedly pulled out a firearm and fired a number of rounds towards officers – putting Burton. Officers on the scene returned fireplace because the rider fled on foot.

After a short foot chase, the rider was apprehended and was handled for gunshot wounds by the officers earlier than being transported by ambulance to Reid Hospital in Richmond. 

Officer Burton, 28, was transported by ambulance to a neighborhood hospital and later airlifted to a hospital in Dayton Ohio the place she was listed in very vital situation.

She has served with Richmond Police Department for 4 years.

The Wayne County Prosecutor will decide precise legal expenses for the suspect upon evaluate of the case.
