Detailed

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has announced to hit the road again against the Shehbaz Sharif government. Now his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has launched a campaign against inflation. Imran Khan has launched this campaign at a time when the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has increased the pressure on the Sharif-led Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government to agree to its conditions.

Pakistan’s Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said this week that Pakistan had no choice but to accept the IMF’s conditions. While there is a general understanding that following these conditions will increase inflation in the country. One of the main conditions of the IMF is that the government should reduce its fiscal deficit. That’s why the government will have to cut the subsidy being given on many essential things including petroleum. According to political analysts, looking at this possibility, Imran Khan has adopted a strategy to bring inflation back to the center of national discussion.

Imran Khan had directed all his party’s MPs in the National Assembly to resign to force the Shehbaz Sharif government to call early general elections. These MPs had submitted their resignations, but the Speaker has not yet accepted them. On Thursday, Speaker Raza Parvez Ashraf once again refused to accept the resignations. Shortly thereafter, PTI announced the launch of agitation from Friday against price rise, shortage of electricity, gas and the general deteriorating economic condition of the country.

According to analysts, the PDM appears to have reneged on what appeared to be an agreement between the ruling party and the PTI earlier this month to hold early elections. Then it was said that due to this agreement, Imran Khan suddenly ended his ongoing Long March. But with no sign of early elections, now they have again decided to start agitation on that issue, which will be the most difficult for the government. According to analysts, it will not be easy for the Sharif government to comply with the IMF conditions at a time when PTI would be on the streets on the issue of inflation.

According to PTI’s announcement, in the first phase of the movement, PTI MPs and MLAs will protest in their respective constituencies. This program will run for three weeks. After that Imran Khan will take over the leadership of the movement. PTI has said that this movement will continue till the new election schedule is announced. Imran Khan has appealed to the general public to express their displeasure by participating in his party’s protests.

On Thursday, Imran Khan held a meeting with senior party leaders. In it, the complete outline of the new movement was prepared. Accordingly, during this movement, special emphasis will be laid on the increasing problems in the textile industry, automobile industry and other sectors of the economy.
