Protesters for Iran, girls’s rights be a part of collectively in Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) — Two teams, one supporting girls’s rights and the opposite the individuals of Iran, thought they have been going to be the one ones on Chicago’s Federal Plaza Saturday morning. As the double reserving of the house turned clear, the 2 teams turned one, rallying for one another’s causes.

Hundreds gathered to face in solidarity with Iran. 

“We are talking about basic human rights here. We are talking about, what you want to wear and how you’re oppressed as a woman because of your body,” mentioned Niloofar Tehrani, a protester supporting Iran. 

Along with girls preventing for reproductive rights within the United States. 

“Women’s rights are human’s rights. And it goes the same for trans rights and Black Lives Matter. Everybody deserves to be treated equally,” mentioned Prudence Sullivan, who was protesting for abortion rights. 

It’s known as a Women’s Wave Day of Action rally. They need to defend and increase entry to protected and authorized abortions and different reproductive rights. 

“We live in a country that likes to say we are all about freedom. Women cannot be free if we cannot control what is happening to our own body,” mentioned Erica Loftus, protesting for abortion rights. 

Protesters have been seen marching down within the streets, ranging from Adams and Dearborn to Michigan. 

The two protests discovered frequent floor after a 22-year-old Kurdish Iranian lady died whereas in custody of the morality police in Iran on Sept. 16. Mahsa Amini was overwhelmed and arrested for not carrying her scarf correctly. 

Niloofar Tehrani was born and raised in Iran. 

“The fight has been going on for 43 years, but we are still not achieving the true freedom for women’s body, for women’s rights and that is the reason we are here today,” Tehrani mentioned. 

Amini’s loss of life has sparked lethal protests in Iran for weeks, in addition to peaceable demonstrations internationally, together with in Chicago. It is the third week in a row individuals in Chicago gathered to face in solidarity with the ladies of Iran.

Tehrani is asking the City of Chicago for extra help. 

“I want to call on the Chicago’s mayor, Lori Lightfoot, to be an advocate for women in Iran,” she mentioned.

“Both teams are asking for a similar answer: equal rights for ladies.
