Prithvi Shaw started his international career in the year 2018 but he did not get many opportunities. He has been out of Team India for a long time. Gautam Gambhir has come forward in support of Shaw.

Recently, India’s T20 and ODI squads for the Sri Lanka series were announced, in which many young players were selected. But Prithvi Shaw once again failed to make it to the Indian team. Mumbai opener Shaw showed excellent form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He was the highest run scorer in the tournament. He added 336 runs at an excellent strike rate of 181.42. Shaw has not played any match for India since July 2021. He has played a total of 12 international matches since his debut in 2018.

Shot was caught in doping in the year 2019, after which he was suspended for 8 months. Since then his discipline has always been under question. He made a spectacular comeback in cricket leaving the doping case behind, but the Indian team management did not pay any special attention to him. However, former India opener Gautam Gambhir believes that it is the responsibility of the selectors and coaching staff to take care of quality player Shaw. He also made a special request to Team India head coach Rahul Dravid.

Gambhir said during a conversation on Star Sports, “What are the coaches for? What are selectors for? They’re not just throw-downs and dress them up. Ultimately, the selectors, coaches and management should try and help such players. A player like Prithvi Shaw, whose talent we all know about. Perhaps he should be brought on the right track and that is the job of the management.

“I think someone – be it Rahul Dravid or the chairman of selectors – should definitely have a talk with Shaw if it’s a fitness or lifestyle issue,” he said. Give him clarity and keep him with the group. The people who should be on the right track should be close to the group so that they can be monitored better. Because the moment you leave them alone, they can go anywhere.

Gambhir further said, “Prithvi Shaw has started his international career and the kind of talent he has, then you should back that player. Yes, you have to look at the upbringing. Where did he come from?” and the challenges he has faced. It is up to the management and selectors to take care of him and help him on the right track.
