Will the Government of India respond to the Gambian Parliament’s claim that 66 children died from Indian medicines?

new Delhi: The World Health Organization (WHO) issued an alert in October stating that four syrups manufactured by Haryana-based Maiden Pharmaceuticals were potentially linked to the death of around seventy children in an African country – The Gambia.

The WHO said that two toxins – diethylene glycol (DEG) and ethylene glycol – were found in ‘unacceptable levels’ in these drugs. Then the Drug Controller of India started the investigation. In December, he gave a clean chit to the company and said that no poisonous substance was found in these medicines.

In October, a committee of the Parliament of Gambia was formed whose task was to get to the bottom of these deaths. That committee submitted its report to the Parliament on 20 December. in that report the Thealike The previously reported findings have been confirmed by. The committee said that the company did not follow the rules related to good manufacturing practices and DEG present in its products was responsible for the death of the children. This parliamentary committee of Gambia also demanded a case against the company. But any response is yet to be given by the Government of India on this demand of Gambia.
