Beijing. Chinese President Xi Jinping interacted via videoconference with troops deployed along the India-China border in eastern Ladakh to review their war preparedness. Official media provided this information on Friday. Xi addressed troops deployed along the border in Khunjerab under the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) headquarters’ Xinjiang Military Command. Xi Jinping is the general secretary of the ruling Communist Party of China and the head of the People’s Liberation Army.
According to a video shown on official media, President Xi Jinping addressed the military, explaining that “the region has been changing all the time in recent years” and how this is affecting the military. One of his soldiers reportedly said he now monitors the border “24 hours a day.” Xi questioned not only their condition, but also whether they were getting fresh vegetables in difficult terrain.
According to official media, Xi questioned the military “about border security and administrative work.” He thanked the soldiers and encouraged them to keep trying. The conflict between India and China began after violent clashes broke out in the Pangong Lake region in eastern Ladakh on May 5, 2020.
There have been 17 high-level military talks between the two countries over the border stalemate in eastern Ladakh, but little progress has been made in resolving the remaining issues. India has stressed that peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) is essential to the overall development of bilateral relations with China.
